The Look:Â Often has a simple, temporary cover labelled “Proof – Not for Sale” or “Advanced Reader Copy.” The binding might be simple, and the text may still have a few typos.
The Feel:Â Exclusive. You’re getting a sneak peek before the rest of the world.

ARCs are not for sale. They are printed in limited quantities and sent to booksellers, librarians, and reviewers to generate buzz before the book’s official publication date. They are working documents, which makes them fascinating pieces of publishing history.
